SUMMARY

The Sales Engineer is directly responsible for technical sales of mechanical construction projects, service, and preventative maintenance agreements. The Sales Engineer works with owners, general contractors, and other stakeholders to support BMS' mission of solving complex mechanical problems for clients and establishes relationships with these stakeholders for long term collaborative business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly responsible for generating sales for BMS' design-build mechanical contracting business, including large mechanical construction projects, service contracts, and preventative maintenance agreements.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key clients, industry peer groups, vendors, and other centers of influence to produce qualified leads and close opportunities
  • Safeguards utilization of preconstruction resources by developing a deep understanding of the client's decision-making process, state of the project (speculative, funded, not-funded, etc.), and competitive environment.
  • Uses mechanical engineering, construction, and service expertise to understand clients' most challenging problems.
  • When able to involve BMS early in the development of an opportunity, works with the BMS' preconstruction group to produce single-line conceptual designs and corresponding budgets, develop value engineering alternatives, and determine the scope of work for complex mechanical construction projects.
  • Works with BMS' project delivery group to capture constructability considerations, develop execution plans, and determine scheduling and manpower requirements and availability.
  • Oversees the proposal generation process and has a proven ability to understand, summarize, and present large amounts of details and data.
  • Utilizes commercial expertise to understand contractual requirements, project specific circumstances, and market conditions to mitigate the company's risk.
  • Monitors sold opportunities through periodic check-ins with clients to ensure ongoing satisfaction and service.
  • Regularly enters and maintains client and sales data into the BMS client management database.
  • Must travel to meet with client frequently
  • Maintains log of activity and expenses

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree preferred with a minimum of a 3 years of self-generating sales experience.
  • High school diploma or GED will be considered based on work history and relevant experience.
  • Self-motivated individual comfortable with a base / commission compensation structure
  • Ability to work without direct daily supervision.
  • HVAC industry sales experience
  • Ability to travel daily, self manage time, and schedule meetings efficiently
  • Ability to provide effective public speaking for customer presentations
  • Ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with customers and BMS employees.
  • Ability to meet client deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to understand mechanical plans and specifications
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, (i.e. Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel, and Powerpoint)
  • Previous experience with a CRM or client management database preferred
  • Previous experience with Blue Beam preferred
  • Previous experience with scheduling software preferred (MS Project or Primavera P6)
